"I think this would be a good healthy step for Texas to bring back this tradition of recognizing America’s religious heritage," said Sen. Phil King, R, who sponsored the bill.
The upper chamber also on Thursday passed a bill empowering school districts to require that public schools provide time for students to pray or read a religious text.
It is my understanding that they were God fearing men. Where did you get this deist info? I'd like to read it. Their separation of religion and state, had nothing to do with God, and everything to do with the power that as an example the pope has. Religion ran the crown, the crown was corrupt and evil. Our constitution mentions God several times indirectly.
They mostly came from Protestant Christian backgrounds, if that makes you feel better but honestly, it's the wrong point to focus on in this thread. The FF Christian/Deist debate is counter-productive.
Do you have any thoughts on the post itself?
I don't think it is counter productive. Our constitution is based on freedoms given by God to man. So it should be taught as such. Prayer time? Any time is prayer time, so that seems silly. Teach the constitution and it's God based origins. Ten commandments I'm not sure on. I mean they're good values to teach, but..... I guess perhaps they should. If they're going to teach evil shit teach godly things too. Free will is a Christian tenant so give them all the info and let them decide!
