I think it's done for their archive tweets, posts, replies and photos/videos. This allows researchers, law enforcement and attorneys' investigators possible discovery for current/future lawsuits. From Child trafficking to drugs running to all other types of corruption, this would be vital evidence and proof in trials to come...
