I read up on this case years ago, as much as I hate pedos, its a tricky one because the judge tried to trick Polanski's legal team. He was a guilty man, but he wasn't getting fair treatment under the law.
Polanski's wife was murdered by The Manson Family only weeks before she was due to give birth to their child. In that aftermath, and using drink and drugs heavily, he has sex with his underage model at a photoshoot at Jack Nicholson's house. When arrested the judge offered him a plea deal which he decided to take; a full confession and pleading guilty for a reduced sentence. Polanski did that in good faith and expected to serve his time, but the judge boasted at his country club how he had tricked Polanski into pleading guilty and was going to throw him away for life. That's why he fled abroad.
Whilst I hate him for what he's done, it's hard to completely condemn him when he accepted responsibility, plead guilty and was prepared to serve jail time for his actions. If the judge had been fair, he would have served his time and this wouldn't be an issue.
Probably the same reason that there is no talk about Angelica Huston being on site at the home of Jack Nicholson and herself and pounding on the bedroom door.

And why does no talk evolve that this occurred at Jack Nicholson's house?
Obviously, it was planned debauchery a0nd there should be no 'plea deal'. The men there should have ALL been prosecuted
