California's reparations task force is recommending the state apologize and issue "down payments" to Black residents as a way to make amends for slavery and racism.

Please help me review history....

Was Calif a slave state?

Did the citizens of Cal "own" people?

Were blacks in Cal treated more poorly than Chinese or Natives?

How come Irish and Italian and German and Poles were horribly discriminated against but chose to assimilate and have succeeded and are now - despite the record of discrimination - being forced to pay for sins of other people in other generations?
