What they call echo chambers are the modern equivalents of discussion groups famous historical physicists and astronomers had with their peers so they could talk shop, sharpen their arguments, hone their logic and broaden their horizons.
"Echo chamber" is just a pejorative term for "place where there are people I like who share my values." Who doesn't want to spend most of their time in places like that?
Isn't that why the left wants to unperson people who express unapproved opinions in the places they control? It's upsetting to them. They want to live in an "echo chamber."
Very well. Let us separate. Of course, they are driven mad by the thought that somewhere, just out of sight, out of earshot, people are expressing opinions and ideas they loathe--Misinformation! Hate speech! We must be stopped, even if they can't hear or see us!
That's not what is meant when by echo chamber in this context. They just mean people don't steel man any alternative arguments and instead just don't challenge eachother for fear of being pushed out. I wish we could do that here but unlike in the science group example in your post, nobody here is replicating studies and or strength testing arguments. The far left and the far right are both extremes and both seem like they enjoy echo chambers, but I wonder if that's just the ones that are insecure in their positions, so they need that constant validation. I don't know, but I really don't dig extremists.
Also, I'm not a victim and I'm not forever embattled. I'm allowed to go peacefully everywhere I go. Same with everyone I know.
"You want an echo chamber?!"
Yes.

They will never let us go peacefully.

When free individuals who think for themselves come together and agree on some major aspects of life that is very, very powerful....
