Brother, they can now use functional MRI machines and AI to turn brain scans into what words you were hearing or what images your brain was viewing. This will rapidly evolve into them being able to basically read your thoughts and the next step after reading thoughts is implanting thoughts and inhibiting thoughts, and dissent will die once they can do that at scale. You literally won't be able to conceive of ideas they don't want you thinking and you will no longer be able to distinguish between what thoughts you had and what ones they implanted and further you won't even realize there is a distinction.
