Ron Sweed, the horror host who became a hit on early 1970s Detroit TV in a haze of firecrackers, absurdist humor and the never-ending torture of his sidekick Froggy, has died in Cleveland at the age of 70.
Long before Elvira became a thing Detroit TV pioneered these shows with the Ghoul and Sir Graves. As a kid my boy scout troop took a tour of the CBS channel 2 station in Detroit and we got to watch a filming of Sir Graves. After the show we all got to look at and touch his coffin.
And wasn’t the Ghoul’s mascot a frog? Prescient.
Yup his name was Froggy.

Before either of them was Ghoulardi, on channel 8 in Cleveland from '63-'66.
Ron Sweed, on from '71-'75, modeled his character after Ernie Anderson's. Ron was actually born in Euclid, Ohio.
I watched them all and loved it.
