People dont grasp how the narrative works. People who have no inkling what they are part of, end up becoming part of the narratives. All they need is little nudges, and half the time they think they are being honest. The establishment picks and chooses amongst random people creating random works, that which helps them sell their narrative.
That said, in this case, its probably lot more than just random.
People get emotionally attached to works of art / literature etc and make excuses. I have been guilty of it myself. Unless we detach outselves from the emotional aspects of the works, we can never truly observe them for what they are.
