To me the concept of Original Sin doesn't seem very intelligent. There is a creator god who wants us to be dumb?
Without getting too deeply into theology, I believe we are taught that original sin means that we are born sinners, imperfect...but with the ability to choose whether or not to submit to God's will. Those who choose to submit must merely believe that their debt of sin is paid and they will receive eternal life. Those who do not, will not.
But the reason we are sinners is the original humans gaining awareness or knowledge right?
Not as I think you are interpreting the word "knowledge" (as in "The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil" perhaps?)
Before the Fall, humans, left to themselves, were not subject to "sin", defined as a rebellious or self-destructive urge. They were naturally obedient to God's will. That is why it took an outside influence - the serpent or devil - to tempt them to sin. They would not have thought if it on their own.
I think it's a better analogy to say that, before the Fall, humans were born sane; after the fall, insanity became possible.
But it was eating the fruit of the tree that started all the sin. It sounds as though attaining higher thought itself goes against god. You say we should forget about thinking very much and be like a baby or a beast.
That's alright, I will use the nervous system I was born with that is fully capable of experiencing higher consciousness and reflecting on it. From this perspective the biblical setup appears to be a laughable attempt to control people. What I can't understand is why anyone would believe it.
humans have more power than understanding. we are capable of very destructive mistakes. consider a deer or a bird. they don't rely on intellect, and they go through life very gracefully. become as little children...
I'm not saying we should have been deer. but at some point we started playing God, and then all these complications on earth were inevitable.
at some point you realize that faith is more important than intellect. that is when you can begin to balance the use of both.
The idea is Adam and Eve were playing god by becoming aware of higher knowledge. Before they ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil they were dumb as a beast.
yes. animals have a different type of consciousness to humans. their experiences tend to be very intuitive and very blissful. God knows the human path comes with hardships. and even with rebellion against God. and now that we have some of this higher knowledge, the only way back into heaven is to become 'as little children'.
and that is because faith is more fundamental than intellect. from a spiritual point of view, it is not necessary to amass knowledge. faith is allowing yourself to be a vessel for spirit, which in turn allows you to know everything you need to know, exactly when you need to know it. that is how animal consciousness operates. they play their roles perfectly, and the easiest way for humans to play ours is by striving to act as that vessel for spirit.... despite this burden of intellect that we have taken on.
But because jesus was sacrificed now it's ok to experience higher thought as long as you believe in him. The sacrifice made god change his standard. You are still a sinner but believing in jesus makes it so it is possible to get into heaven.
