If CO wasn't going down the tubes I'd recommend it. Lots of sun (though not wall to wall like they make it sound, most months afternoon clouds and storms are common, if typically brief - i.e. not uncommon for sunset after a storm for example). Low humidity and bugs, no chiggers (no fireflies though).
We looked into CO and we were thinking about it. We had relatives, and friends there, but it went really woke. Plus the tunnels all there for the deep states. Not touching that state.

Yeah, I don't have super deep roots but part of the problem is figuring out which state to go that I can tolerate. Granted, staying alive/out of a camp or something is part of "tolerating."
