The same reason none of the military commanders and soldiers preparing for D-Day didn't tell anyone. Loose lips sinks ships. If they leaked something, their missions could be compromised, their families put in danger and they would face a court-martial for treason.
And they used disinfo and even ran a fullscale fake staging operation in UK to misdirect and confuse the Nazis, not unlike this info-war.
To be fair that was in the days before almost everyone had a pocket camera and audio recorder that we have now...
I believe D-Day was leaked, but it was an intentional leak. The commanders leaked out they were building up an offense about 150-200 miles north of the actual landings. The Germans sent troops and equipment there based on those leaks. The art of war.
