Reviewing the top companies in a corporate visibility and reputation analysis by Harris
Draws me to the discussion about the next symbol to boycott and take down. I think that if we are to be really immediately effective, we should have some criteria to assess our next campaign. Several here have advocated for Target to be the next,,,well, target. I suggest we consider by factor how to proceed. Here are several factors (not ordered or weighted) from which we might start. the military call this target selection criteria and selection of High Payoff Targets.
Visibility - taking out an unknown small fry is kinda like peeing in your wet suit...your get a warm feeling by no one notices. By the function of this survey, we have some of the most visible companies.
Ability to provide focused effects - computer companies are so widely distributed and diversified that they are so difficult to target as to be impossible
Massively consumer dependent - Companies that provide government services will not be allowed to go under, so AWS, google Cloud etc are likely not good targets. The more singularly dependent on consumer spending, the more impact we can have.
Ability to make a fast (and thus more visible) impact - Car companies are likely not a good target for this purpose because of relatively low volume.
Status - the closer to iconic status the greater the impact
Substitution - take out a brand that can be readily replaced such as athletic wear. Note that Patagonia is the top company on this list.
"Never let a crisis go to waste" - in our current economic environment, banking appears to be shaky and financial institutions could be vulnerable. Note that AMEX is listed pretty high. BofA and Wells Fargo are also on the list
Do no harm to innocents - there are companies that are richly deserving of being taken down such as Walgreen's and CVS, but too many people are contractually obligated to those for critical medical care. Consequently, (just my personal view subject to assessments from others) I would omit this kind of company from at least the initial scrub and hope they will learn vicariously and change.
Identify and support allies - even if not perfect, there are companies on this list that should be supported, including Chick-fil-a and Hobby Lobby
Thoughts and comments are welcome
I think we are saying the same thing.
Good job, today fren๐๐
