Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
THIS is how I have been spending my days. I try to go Turtling three days a week, and then I take other people with me so they can have the same enjoyment. I finally got my GoPro working, and figured out how to get the videos to my phone.

I live in Kauai part time. My family owns a home here and I house sit for them and do home repairs. I come twice a year, and stay for 6 to 8 weeks at a time. It’s such a blessing from the Lord, and I am so grateful for the Christian community that I have here on this island.
What a wonderful way to spend your time! Are you scuba diving or snorkeling?
Just snorkeling at Anini beach. There’s no waves, it’s just smooth water. If you go at low tide, which I do, you could be pretty far out and still stand up. This is helpful for older people or people who are not great swimmers so if they get tired, they can still feel safe. It’s a great little beach. I love it there. However; I have considered the scuba diving, but I’d like to get certified before I do something like that. The thing about Anini beach, is, there’s no sharks there because there’s a reef between the shore and the big wide open ocean. It’s safe there. We’ll see what happens with that scuba diving though. I have plenty of friends here that have boats or a way to get out on the water. Without it costing an arm and a leg. Literally! Lol.
I guess it’s no laughing matter, because my family that lives here is actually related to Bethany Hamilton. She’s a girl who lost her arm to a shark attack when she was about 13 years old. She went on to continue to be a formidable surfing contender. She’s married now with kids, but she does some type of a ministry where she helps amputees deal with their loss of a limb.
Entire family is very strong Christians, and that’s how they got through everything. Her and her husband have been on the amazing race twice, and voted one of the best top 10 couples. She’s an awesome human being. I just put it that way.
I'm older and not great in summer: I tend to fall asleep when it's hot.
How much $$$ exactly?
Sorry, it’s supposed to say not great swimmers. Siri!
I don’t charge money. I just do it for friends, or people who are friends of mine, who have family members in town. It’s just a great activity, and sometimes people are afraid to go into the ocean. Especially if they’re older. I spend an hour of time out there with them. I use my GoPro and take videos too. If we can’t find turtles right away, I’ll swim around until I can locate them, or talk to other swimmers and ask them where they’ve seen them.
I just love doing this. I go at least three times a week anyway, so why not bring somebody with? However; once my mom passes, I may consider moving here with my family, and doing something like this as a side gig. Just seeing how things work out doing it for free for now.
Affordable is supposed to be a formidable.
Word on the street is I'm going to some tropical island for my next podcast episode 😉🤣😂
Lol! Looking forward to it. Were you able to see the video? I don’t know how all the stuff works.
