Hmmm. As a Christian I understand the need for humility and contrition....but the shame, guilt etc, no. This doesn't 100% fit with what I have heard of him in the past.
If his story is true, it's perfectly fine if that individual felt compelled to shine his shoes. But to emotionally manipulate others into that is not how God operates
