I've decided to run for city council. It's about time I did something more to help win the fight. I remember a post from either here or PDW that had the contact information of someone who can help you get elected. I thought that I had saved the info in a note, but I can't find it.
Does anyone else remember this post or do you know effective ways to get elected?
Thanks in advance!
What I see political candidates doing wrong is not having a marketing plan. You are up against a crime syndicate who is VERY well organized, and you have to be very well organized to counteract that. That means that you need to have a clear and specific message, including exactly what you are going to propose when you are on the council, and then have a whole shit-ton of ways that the message reaches all the city's voters. No planning = no win.
From someone who worked in marketing at Google, I can absolutely promise anyone that this is extremely accurate and this post should be majorly emphasized. There's a phrase in sales that I have a love/ hate relationship with "you don't know what you don't know"... by extension who in your city knows you? You can run cheap marketing campaigns that are effective but you need tactical know how, or the typical but effective approach of dump money into marketing for eyeballs.
Unfortunately, I know almost no one. But I do have at least one clear message of change that I want to effect, and one less-specific message of change I want to effect.
I know that yard signs and mailers are effective around here. I'm not sure about other types of advertising. I might be able to target a Facebook ad.
