A few of the local businesses in my area openly prefer that their customers pay cash and will give you discounts if you do. I try to give them my business when possible.
You're not the only one. I've been noticing a distinct increase in use of cash at the shop where I work. Used to be about 30% of sales were cash. For the last few months that's been increasing. It's almost half now.

Plus, giving up a physical item (physical cash) is much more of a deterrent to over spending than swiping or tapping or other electronic methods.
