I got my tinnitus the old fashioned way. By not using hearing protection while engaged in a firefight.
Me too, except instead of a warzone I was a dickhead 20-year old who thought operating heavy equipment with ear protection was for pussies.
Mine was partially small arms but mostly 81mm mortars. Heavy equipment sneaks up on you. It’s loud but not too loud. You don’t realize it’s doing the damage it’s doing until it’s too late.
