Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
It is 48 here this morning, we are getting much needed rain, NE has been in a drought for the past couple of years, today feels like a normal northern vermont late spring, June is typically rainy, just not this chilly. Gardeners curse, we need the rain but we also have a short growing season and want to be out in the garden. Planting lots of medicinal herbs this year, Hyssop, Yarrow, Skullcap, Valerian,Cannabis, and, I admit I am a plantaholic and my life could become unmanageable, I wanted lots of Lavender, a long row of it, so the individual plants would be pricey, I bought a flat of Lavender plugs, Munstead, because it can over winter.72 of them cost as much as 20 larger plants. Luckily many of my peers (old lady gardeners) have come forth to barter with me . I will probably plant about 50 of them. I have this romantic idea of having an enormous amount, get bees, and make Lavender Honey. There is a market for stuff like that. Trying to get my son into thinking about an apiary. Our little plot of Eden is buzzing and alive, despite the clouds and rain, the smoke from Quebec has moved on to points south and east.
I found an interesting YT channel called White House on the hill. This family raises bees. I’m not sure if you mean just attracting bees or actually having hives but I’ve learned a lot about the process on this channel, among other things family farm related. It’s my dream to have one. Good luck, your plans seem amazing.

Thank you! For now, we are attracting, use no pesticides at all. I would like to have the hives, but it's my son who would be building them and maintaining them, trying to steer him in that direction.
