60 yo guy otherwise healthy, never vaxxed, still has not had return of taste or smell. Recommended he start NAC and Zinc together and is now on day 5, but any other recommendations or thoughts would be much appreciated. A review of old posts mentions things like the Zelenko protocol, ivermectin and HCQ, as well as olfactory training, but many of these are over a year old.

Tell him to do some rsearch on Nattokinase,,,I take a capsule of it every morning on an empty stomach...you can get it from iherb...but I found it even cheaper on ebay here in Australia..I also take 1000 Mg of vit c..(Gold C..from i herb) and repeat every 5 hours...if you are taking too much your bowels will let you know..if that happens just reduce the amount...fyi Im 71....I hope this helps your friend..cheers.
Please be careful with the Nattokinase. It can have the opposite effect on some people. I was taking it for a few weeks before starting to get progressively weaker. I got a cut on my fingers twice during that time, and noticed it only took about a second of very light pressure to stop the bleeding. I was pleased, because I thought it might be vitamin K in it, even though it had reportedly been removed. But after several weeks of regular use, I became so weak that it was almost impossible for me to get up off a short stool I sit on for certain tasks in the kitchen. Took several minutes, and involved getting down on the floor on all fours first. I was seriously terrified about my health as never before. I suspected the Natto, and quit taking it. Started regaining my strength the next day. A few weeks later, I got a cut on my finger again, and bleeding time was back to where it had been before. I am thinking the exhaustion was caused by my blood becoming far too thick. No other changes during that time period. Never again, for me.
Bump up the vit C to 5-10,000 mg of sodium ascorbate
Be sure to add quercetin (unless you have thyroid issues) to enable the zinc to permeate the cells. Alternatively green tea can be used...
Tell him to take NAC 600 (1) with Chlorella (10/20) pills AND Glutathione (1). NAC is in the body naturally and makes Glutathione. They both tell the body to release toxins in the cells. The Chlorella (seaweed) then carries the toxins out of the body. I took all of these for a few months and then dropped the Glutathione and still take the others daily. There’s good research out there on these supplements so I’d mention them and have him look it up. I definitely think it will remove toxins safely.
My taste and smell still haven't returned. It's been 3 years. I want ever tested not did I get sick. I take my vitamins and recommended supplements and go on.
Wow...sorry to hear that you are going through this. Have you tried ivermectin? That helped one of my friends regain his taste. Good luck.
I take it monthly as a preventative. I'm a firm believer.
Maybe try increasing the frequency. I don’t think there is danger of overdose. They gave leukemia patients massive doses without side effects. The study is easy to find online. God bless you fren.
A detox protocol with Ivermectin worked with a friend of mine who couldn't get his taste/smell back.
Here's a link to a list of places to buy pill form IVM -- the link to the Protocols is at the top of the page. (I'm banned from this here on GA.)

My smell/taste is altered. I now enjoy things I used to hate like cilantro but the weirdest indication of how far off my sense of smell is would be my armpit b/o. All my life it had a certain distinct smell and since covid it’s very different. It now smells like burnt plastic. My wife says it smells the same so it’s not my b/o that’s different it’s my sense of smell. I’ll try the detox and see if it goes back to normal.
Here is something I ran across when I lost my senses. I didn't pursue this myself because my senses came back before I had to go this route. I'm glad because I don't trust chiropractors. However, I was considering it out of desperation. My quality of life felt really demised when I couldn't smell or taste. So, for what it's worth, I leave this here hoping it will help. https://www.fox26houston.com/news/chiropractor-helps-patients-get-their-taste-and-smell-back-after-covid-19
I have some NAC powder because i thought it might be good for my wife's long term ailments, but she doesnt really take it. How does it relate to covid
NAC acts as a zinc ionophore to help transport zinc across cell membranes, with the hope that the zinc will improve olfactory function. You can lose the senses of taste and smell with colds and flu, but with covid this has been particularly nasty
