We're growing them back and we're trying to bring back the European aurochs with "rewilding" projects over there. The genetics of the whole project are really interesting, but obviously the climate psychos will turn on them once they realize that like all ruminants, the bacteria in their stomachs that allow them to digest the grass they eat release methane.
Years ago, they used to estimate the climate impact of methane at ~20-25x that of CO2. Of course now you hear 80x, because "Muh Science(R)." And they never tell you that the amount of methane in the atmosphere is so small that it is measured in parts per billion.
