Same thing after WW2. J.P. Morgan company, Rockefeller family, Carnegie company, and Vanderbilt family, were all major financial backers behind the rebuilding of Europe. In turn, they modernized the German steel industry, which destroyed the US Steel industry. They profited massively off this.
