Smart tv is just a tv that has more functions than just watching cable/outputs.

Only way I know to stop it is to use the smart TV as a dumb terminal and set up a Linux box as your Home Theater PC.

A smart TV is just a TV with built-in telescreen capabilities and the ability to phone home to Google.

An Apple TV bypasses Google and sends your information to Big Brother through Cupertino instead.

Edit: Downvoting me for this comment makes me laugh and also doesn't prevent your smart TV from dialing home as soon as it obtains an Internet connection.
