That's something I see all the time out here in our little rural towns - people begging. I'm sure they're professional beggars and don't live here. The latest is people inside stores pretending they don't speak English. You find out real fast they do speak English when you tell them you're calling the police to report them for soliciting without a license. heh BTW, nearly all of these begging people have small children in tow to make people more sympathetic. I am horrified by this.
There was a panhandler that stood at a busy intersection in front of a car dealership in my town every day. He was there most of the day for months and every attempt to have him move on failed.
One day the car dealership offered him a job to get him to move on and he laughed in their faces saying he made more money on that corner in an hour than they could pay him in a week.
The GM of the dealership followed him one day as he left and it turns out he had his Escalade parked in a parking lot about 1/2 mile away. The City finally got involved after that and I havent seen him back.
I see it on many corners here in the state capitol.
I’d love to “set up” on some of them with my camera and track them to see what they drive and where they come from. In Minecraft, of course…
These aren't cities but small towns. Always in areas close to the interstates so I'm sure they're driving out here from the urban DC area. It started a few years ago at gas stations with people claiming to be traveling from somewhere far away, to have lost their money and begging for gas money. Now they're all over the parking lots of shopping centers. The ones inside the stores with little cards claiming they speak no English are I'm sure an organized gang.
Another one "plays" an electric violin with a speaker, but only plays one song over and over. Yeah, that's believable. He usually has a woman and two little kids with him and a sign saying he needs money to feed his kids. There are signs all up and down the highways and storefronts here with stores, factories and warehouses begging people to apply for jobs, some with large signup bonuses. But he can't feed his kids. I guess times are hard for musicians with only one song.
