I'm kinda surprised he hasn't been excommunicated or whatever for going against the "infallible" Pope like this.
I'm not Catholic, but that infallibility doctrine has always bothered me. Important leader, yes, but he's as human as the rest of us.
Infallibility is widely misunderstood by even practicing Catholics. It only applies in very specific scenarios and has only officially come into play a couple of times in the history of the Church. It dates back quite a bit according to the Catechism. Here's some more info if you're interested: https://www.catholic.com/tract/papal-infallibility.
That being said, I'm kind of surprised he hasn't been laicized or something along those lines as well.
Infallibility does not mean impeccability (unable to sin). Popes can and have sinned.
Infallibility itself is a pretty broad topic to cover, e.g. there are several levels. Actually right now there is a bit of a crisis because Francis says so many heretical things that some are starting to agitate as to what the metes and bounds of infallibility are. Some argue that Francis is not really the Pope but an anti-pope and usurper (similar to Biden), hence he has no protection of infallibility, others say that infallibility should be very very narrowly defined etc.
