I’m probably about to lose my insurance, or change drastically, due to children grown up married/jobs/etc. I had hyperthyroidism, also known as Graves’ disease, about 8 yrs ago. Lost a bunch of weight quickly, was basically dying. Eventually doc fixed me up. But here soon I may be paying out of pocket for what meds I’m currently on. I haven’t brought this up with the doc, and I’ve been smooth sailing since I got regulated those years ago. But does anyone use something off of the shelf perhaps? Something tried and true? I’m currently on 125mcg Levothyroxine sodium.
Just doing some research before I possible get the shaft. They also had me on some blood pressure meds, but I’ve been using that CoQ10 and it seems to have lowered my BP even more. So I wonder if that alone would take care of the blood pressure stuff.
I always heard iodine is one of the principal elements used by the thyroid. I only know about this due to being a once upon a time radiation worker. Iodine can be easily irradiated and they hand the iodine pills out like candy in areas where a radiation accident has occurred. Apparently it concentrates in the thyroid. Don't want it irradiated.
If that is NOT the case consider this. Low fat/low sodium diets limit the intake if iodized salt, something done since WWI or WWII if memory serves. It boosts thyroid activity, I think. The drug you listed is for hypo thyroidism. Low functionality, not hyper thyroidism.
The iodized salt is not naturally occurring but so many chefs say to use sea salt or some other natural salt. They may be doing individuals a disservice. Iodine is not bad for your health, in other words.
I read someone post drawing a one square inch box on their leg and swabbing iodine on it. If your body needs it, it will absorb it. If not, no harm, no foul. Might be worth a try.
Yea they used some sort of iodine pill with a spot radiation thing, years ago to “nuke” my thyroid. I know it still there and it works a little according to the doc. A few have pointed out that it looks like I could use GoodRx to aid in a no insurance situation for keep getting my current medication. So maybe I will still have some good news. It’s why I came here to ask. I trust all y’all more than my own doctor and the like. They just pump pills.
I used GoodRx for a few years and Kroger was always the lowest price. Kroger is no longer accepting GoodRx because they offer their own SingleCare and the price is always cheaper than GoodRX. You can download the SingleCare App to check prices. Kroger owns a bunch of grocery and pharmacy chains if you have no Kroger near you.
Zechstien sea salt with iodine, have used this for 6 months.
