We were not meant to have allies when the travel time between north america and europe was 66 days at sea. Now that technology has shrank the world I think it is ok to develop alliances. Much as I like the Monroe Doctrine we cant sit here and pretend all countries are equally friendly to us. Having said that if we're gonna have allies I like russia better than europe at this point

I disagree with that but I sure agree regarding our relationship with Russia. I believe our founders were more in line with friends, rather than allies. Allies are what lead to war, IMHO.
