I think there needs to be a lot of teaching and discussion. Declassification can lead to some profound revelations, and a new monetary system ( a necessity) could bring radical changes in incentives (we won't be constantly skimmed). New technology should be looked at before jumping in - how will it impact our lives and our environment? There may be many paths we can follow and we should try to choose what is best for our species and our future. Meanwhile, keep everyone fed and sheltered.
