Pricey EV charging cables are now being stolen
🤡 CLIMATE CONTROL 🤡
Yet another weak link in the EV chain.
"A guy tried to break into my car [to steal the charging cord]... but a neighbor stopped him. Within a few weeks, two other neighbors had theirs taken," posted another resident.
"I never had a concern about charging my car in the driveway. I've had electric cars for eight years, and never had a problem," Schneiderman told NBC4.
And replacing his stolen cable was pricey at $2,700, though charging cords for other EVs are less.
Thousands? Must be Teslas. If you buy EVs that use the standard J1772 L2 connector, you can buy the whole charger with a cable for $570. But, I agree thievery is thievery.

Tesla L2 chargers are 475 bucks... among the cheapest options, definitely not thousands.
Sorry, I assumed Tesla because it's the only one I didn't know about. Where are they getting the 2k figure?
The guy in that video has an Audi e-tron... $2700 mentioned definitely seems steep but it's Audi in LA so I'm sure there's lots of markup going on.
