But not really. If you study what communist governments do (apart from the atrocities of the 20th Century, which cannot be forgiven, but then one must investigate what really happened). They are pragmatically about nationalizing food production and healthcare, building housing (commie blocks, LOL) and building factories to employ the population. Not that such policies don't cause other problems, they do.
But my point is there is a marked difference, for the average worker-pede, between being seen as a vital cog in the works and being looked after (the good part of communism), or a useless eater, because private individuals have efficiently limited the business to fire 20% of the staff, or automated the line to robots, or outsourced to a slave-labor country. (The bad part of capitalism) - leading to factory cities, like Detroit, falling into disrepair, just because foreign imports (outsourcing is so much more efficient, they said).
My point is that economics and management have fallen into to silly ideology, and also - that no system is perfect, so we must be mindful, which is where Trade Unions traditionally occupied a space, until they were corrupted.
At this moment, communism is raising the standard of living for Russians and Chinese, even as we know there are still problems. Meanwhile, capitalism, or really crony-capitalism, is destroying the Western countries who have signed up to NATO - bigger problems for average people - like they now have to choose between keeping the heating on, or eating.
What is one to do?
The stuff Lennon was singing about was extreme ideology that was value-added to communism. i.e. Utopia. Honestly, as long as there is evil, it is never going to happen.
