Its possible, the tricky part is generating the proper hertz, a typical 2 pole generator runs at 3600 rpms to generate 120/240v at 60 hertz. The controller is constantly adjusting fuel/air mixture to adjust to the load and to maintain 3600 rpms. The voltage regulator is reacting to the load and adjusting field excitation to maintain proper voltage.
You could make one with a lawn mower engine and a car alternator to light a light bulb but you wouldn't want to plug in any expensive house hold appliances.
Generator tech here. its easy to do, but hard to do right.
I was going to watch a few YouTube videos and figure out the minor details, but sounds like I should just ask you. 😉
I can get you a deal on a used Generac and I am in Michigan, the red part.
Really? How much of a deal are we talking about?
Heres a good video of a simple generator with no moving parts- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NT8-b5YEyjo you just need some Strontium-90.
