Well I think there is a lot people don't know about families like this.

Ashley's had a tough life - she left the diary in a halfway home, right?

A big part of mental programming that can take place is that if you tell anybody about what happened you get a very strong urge to commit suicide.

So it is so hard to tell anybody about it. I speculate that she remembers more than just showers.
