That stance imo ultimately led to the result that the temple was destroyed, traditional practices could no longer go on, rabbinic and talmudic teaching replaced the prophets, and now ironically Christians (the messianic Jews) are the ones trying to reform Judaism to accept that messiah and all the past He represented. Meanwhile, today, even now, there is a major protest in Jerusalem over a proposed law that the Knesset will vote on tomorrow. As I understand it, it will increase the power of their supreme court to overrule legislators. Sounds familiar and not good. Israel has many fractious parties that can only rule by compromise. The supreme court could become dictators as in some states here.
