It's from the Greek "baphe metis" meaning to absorb wisdom.

Not to mention one would imagine there being some Arabic found on its images if it came from Islam.

No. It came from antichrist gnosticism, hence the use of Hebrew and Latin on its images (e.g. "Solve Coagula" on its arms.
