Edit: I take that back. Critical to watch the clip with audio. On the lower resolution you can't really see his mouth move but he is apparently speaking up till being touched.

Mitch was talking up until she was guided in to touch his hand.
If you look at the longer version, people were beginning to be concerned. His voice had already slowed down and they were giving him funny looks.
