Unbelievable. I am working on a design project that requires a vintage version of a logo. This is for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League. In 2020, the team was pressured to change their name from the “Eskimos.’ After much deliberation and fan input, they chose “Edmonton Elks.” I've lived in this city for over 60 years, and a season ticket holder until the name change.
Warren Moon, who led Edmonton to a record five straight Grey Cups between 1978 and 1982 stated, "The name Eskimos, to me, just means pride and it means winning with that organization". However, he stated that he was ultimately supportive of the move because some people might be offended by the name. - Wikipedia
Anyway, the following is a writeup I found on the history of the Edmonton Elks logo. Remember, the “Elks” did not exist before 2020.

"The Edmonton Elks have been a part of the Canadian Football League since 1949, and the team has had several different primary logos over its long history. The first logo featured an Elk head with antlers on top of a shield shape with blue and yellow stripes. This logo was used until 1961 when it was replaced by another Elk head design that included red, white, and blue colors in addition to yellow and blue. This version lasted for two more years before being changed again in 1963 to feature an elk standing upright holding a football between its hooves while wearing what appears to be a helmet or crown above its eyes.
This third version of the Edmonton Elks' primary logo would remain unchanged for nearly three decades until 1992 when it underwent some minor modifications such as adding shading around the edges of the elk's face, changing some details about how it held onto the ball (now using only one hoof), as well as making other small adjustments which gave this classic image even greater definition than before! The current edition features all these same elements but now includes green accents instead - creating an updated look that is still instantly recognizable yet clearly modernized at once!
Overall, despite having gone through various iterations over time - most notably during their early days in CFL play - fans can rest assured knowing they'll always recognize their beloved Edmonton Elks thanks to this iconic symbol which remains ever present no matter who happens to be playing on game day!"
COMPLETE FABRICATION AND REWRITING OF HISTORY!
That is BS. I love Warren Moon. He is a class act of the highest magnitude. Now I'll stop watching the CFL like I did NFL/NBA/MLB. Time for a new football league in Canada.
