Texas Longhorns— Hook ‘em horns!
It's also devil's horns. I know some people use it for "rock & roll!", but I still see devil's horns.
dio (who started using them in rock/metal) always said his grandmother used it to ward off the evil eye. once we take into account what Q helped us learn about Y-heads, it takes on a very real-world meaning. a quick hand gesture that people could use to warn others that a Y-head was around and that they should hide the children.
so, yes, it is a reference to the devil's horns. it's a warning to others that he is in town and that they should be vigilant.
like other symbols, however, it is open to abuse. when a satanist turns the cross upside down, he doesn't corrupt it forever, does he? why do we allow them to do the same thing to so many other symbols?
