Why is "hate" speech a problem

Hate is just an emotion, you can't make laws banning it

If I say "I hate [fill in group here]", have I harmed them, or myself more? Why are they so thin-skinned they can't take words? Words don't lead to violence; violence leads to violence. Be glad I'm not out killing those I don't like.

This is another nonexistent issue, like so-called "global warming", "white privilege," etc.
