Thats not what they were saying at all. The system is rigged and if people went third party for anyone other than Trump the vote would be split and dems would win like they always do. Thats all that was being explained. The only way third party will get traction is when Trump wins and declares a new party while he is in office and everyone who supports him also goes party lines and moves to the third party. At the rate things are going, both parties might be dead so third party is the only way to rebrand the uniparty and do nothing stink.
