If the US military used the C17 Globemaster which has a max payload of approx 85 short tons (wiki), at 650 flights x max payload = 55,250 tons of GOLD
Right now the US is listed as the largest GOLD reserve holder in tons with just over 8,000 tons, imagine adding another 10K, 20K.... or even 50K!
Yes indeed, that may very well end the FED and all the other Central Bank tentacles in an instant.
Some Q's:
How much did the Vatican have?
If it had a lot was it stored secretly and undeclared?
Payload:
According to Wiki a full payload leaves the C17 range at approx 2,420 nautical miles.
For example, the trip from Rome to New York is 3730 nautical miles.
1,310 nautical miles short.
For simplicity let's assume a C17 flew with a 50% of its total payload capacity, to enable a direct flight from Rome to New York.
That's still approx. 25,000 tons of GOLD, currently the US is the largest holder of GOLD based on various websites, so add in the 8K and you get approx. 33,000 tons.
(some rounding added for some symbolic number fun)
C-5 Galaxy is still much larger than the C-17, and can hold much more, about 180,000 pounds....
So yeah, 90 Tons, at 16 Oz per pound, but Gold is weighed at 12 Oz per Pound....
Lots of Maths in this....
That's also a valid point, but there are a lot more C17 built.
Does the C5 have runway limitations?
My gut feeling is the C17 is that bit more nimble and there are more built and probably in operation than the C5, but I used it purely as back of a napkin means to work out the potential haul and what it might imply.
Have the airheads found any historical flight patterns?
C17's or C5's with serious escorts?
C-5 soes have a few limitations on Runways, but not really much as long as there's some sort of solid dirt to land on it can, rarely does, but can....
After that, I have no more answers to your questions, I didn't look that deep....
