I have been wondering, will the white hats in our military use that as an opportunity to begin their cleanup operations and take all the homeless off the streets, get them the help they need, deal with the drug dealers/violent criminals/gang members, and tear down ugly abandoned buildings? That would be an interesting thing to see.

Yes, but what is the solution for homeless drug addicts and the mentally ill?
How do you contain them and house them and keep the drug dealers, sex workers and criminals from taking over? How do you keep them fed, clean, busy and not killing each other?
The only solution I can think of is to move them physically to some place they cannot easily leave from until they are recovered. Retrofit existing buildings such as the Prison/Military facilities on Islands off our coasts like Alcatraz, Rikers, Fort Jefferson, etc.
These can be modified to be more 'livable', and include some sort of ability for the residents to assist in caring for the place in order to stay there.
Then, the homeless can be purged from our streets, be screened for mental illness, drug addiction, or simple out of work/homeless. The people who are on the streets should be given the choice of going to lockup or going to the 'New Homeless Neighborhood' and get help with drug or alcohol detox, counseling, addiction, while also being required to work in some fashion, i.e., sewing, growing food, painting, janitorial or such in order to contribute to the cost of their residency.
There would have to be medical care, security, food prep, provided.
Surely, this can be done, but what say you guys?
It would be a good thing to put politicians in camps and force them to serve the recovered homeless people who rule over them.
It's a good idea. Personally I don't think people should be allowed to camp on sidewalks and poop in gutters. I guess I'm just fussy that way. Like you said, they can be screened and assigned to a class of facility until they "graduate" to being a rent payer.
