As someone who lived through Ian last year, I can tell you these hurricanes have far wider weather impacts than is reported. We were having weather related to Ian on Monday before it made landfall Thursday while the storm was still down by South America.

17-22mph wind gusts isn’t hurricane force winds by definition, though. Cat 1 winds start at 74mph.
