The fires were on Maui though weren’t they? I hadn’t heard about the big islands fires yet and that looks like a ridiculous amount to not hear any reports of towns burning on that island
There were big fires on the Kohala coast of the big island. Southern Kohala is mostly lava fields and Kiawe forest and are no strangers to wildfires. There are mostly big resorts just on the beaches there. Plus August is probably the lowest tourism month since its hot enough to melt your shoes walking down the road. The big resorts like Mauna Kea beach hotel wouldn't want to scare away the few tourists they get this time of year. I used to live in this area. Northern Kohala has scattered small townships.
