We should be more worried about how Germany fell into Weimar, seeing as we are well on our way. Nazism was simply a reaction to Weimar. If it wasn't Hitler, it was going to be someone.
The descriptions of Weimar Germany in Luigi Barzini Jr's "The Europeans" are horrifying. Similar to what we have today but the perpetrators more brazen, the wicked deeds much more public, a people much more desperate, and fighting age males much less sedated and complacent.
