I speak of what I know. The tweet said he "went to Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center". It did not say he went to a local, non VA, emergency room.
Every Vet in the VA health care system is given a toll free number which will reach a nurse 24 hours a day. I carry that number in my wallet. You call the number and work through the treatment options until your issue is resolved. If your local VA health care provider is not addressing the issue they will send you to a non VA health care provider.
From first hand experience, if you don't sign financial responsibility forms, they will treat you. Vets, if you find yourself in a similar situation, call your toll free number and work through the process. If you still don't get help try going to your local hospital's emergency room or a local immediate care center.
