Don't have any theories but maybe it wasn't a cow knocking over a lamp post that caused Chicago to burn for 3 days.

It doesn't help that hot weather including heavy winds helped fuel that fire.
But at the same time, some warships may have shot flaming cannonballs and other debris into Chicago to help fuel the fire. Also, almost everything was wooden structures and some bankers likely wanted clear land to build new buildings including the first skyscrapers.
Apparently there were a total of 6 fires that occurred, Chicago, Peshtigo Wisconsin, Alpena, Holland Manistee, and Port Huron Michigan. I understand the official account is some cow knocking over a lamp post. I'm guessing some distortion of the truth and possibly some intentionality involved.
The Peshtigo fire narratives are extraordinary! Stories of fire that water could not extinguish, bubble like voluminous, think plasma like material that enveloped and incinerated what it touched. Sad
Greek fire?
I need to look into that. I watched a scientist fire a laser fresnel lens, a lighthouse beacon lens. There is tech out there.
