It reminds me of one of my most-hated adages - "Go along to get along!" Even if someone in your family group or social group is doing something bad, everyone is supposed to look the other way, not say anything, "don't rock the boat" etc. It's just been extrapolated out into larger society.

Others suggest progressivism (go along to get along) to distract one from being resistance (life) within temptation (inception towards death). In other words...the natural order needs to be resisted; those within tempt each other to want to follow orders.
