I'm here in Southern California and nobody around me is taking this seriously. I went to Home Depot for some Quick Dam and nobody was buying any plywood for their windows or anything else.
The storm will weaken before it hits my area but it will still most likely be the biggest storm in this area in our lifetime.
People behaved in the same way when they were warned of the snow this past winter. It really was the worst any of them had seen in their lifetime and so few of them were prepared.
I'm cleaning up my yard of everything that could move. Boarding up windows. Stocking up on food and water. I got a couple new flash lights with extra fresh batteries. I got heavy gloves and thick plastic buckets in case any glass breaks. My tank is full and I'm going to bed Sunday night fully dressed with my shoes right next to me. In case the powers out for days at a time I got my guitar and a few books I've never read along with an extra case of beer.
My neighbors and co-workers are going to concerts and doing fun things this weekend while I'm preparing. Of course they're making fun of me. I asked my boss how we call out on Monday if they don't answer and they laughed and said "Why wouldn't we be here on Monday?" They think that power being out and roads being blocked is absurd. We'll see.
