Its more along the line where a smart meter could be controlled to surge overwelming amounts of power into the electrical box in the houses, causing them to catch fire
Typically the wiring connection of such devices aren't capable of pushing that much energy. There would have to be a way that that little box commanded some other asset to do such a thing. This theory is less believable than a large aircraft or satellite harnessing the power to deploy a laser beam... unless a whole lot more can be some how done with traditionally low voltage capable wiring or lasers being way more efficient that previously thought.
