Perhaps it’s optics. If he says nasty things about them, then evidence comes to light about their respective crimes during Trump’s next presidency, people may think he has a vendetta against them. But if he says nice things about them, then bad news about them drops, it keeps Trump isolated.

Perhaps it’s comms. Trump does like bringing attention to bad people precisely so that their past is exposed. See Fauci.

Or Trump just likes being generous, even to his enemies.
