Fun fact:
The roads there get hot enough to melt your flip flops in the August heat. I have personal experience with that.
Also, most roads in Hawaii use crushed lava stones. As they age, the roads turn pink. They fill the potholes with more crushed lava stones and it looks like a pink leopard with black spots.
The roads here melt like any other asphalt road. They are not make of crushed lava stones. That is kapu.
I lived on the Big Island. Except for QL Hwy, Ali'i Drive in Kailua town, and subdivision roads in Kamuela, Hilo, and Kona... all roads were crushed lava. That was still true last time a visited a few years back.
I STILL live here. And no matter where you are in the world, asphalt melts before steel.
